Screencasts. Me. Bad combination.

by jottinge on 2010/05/10

I’ve been doing some screencasts lately, and it’s … annoying for me.

I think I’m finally getting the actual physical production elements down – where to place the mic, the EQ to use, where to speak, and the reverb to be applied.

The problem is that all of those things are makeup on a pig. I have a voice made for oil painting. (And a face made to hide, even for radio.)

I … just … cannot… talk. My vocal quality is screwed up because I have an occlusion, for example – it’s kinda hollow. But the biggest problem is that I am missing parts that I probably should have, and as a result, I have to think my way through every sentence.

Most people, for example, know how to make a “t” (or any plosives, really). I know how, but it’s not natural for me. I have an actual thought process that says, “Okay, place my tongue against my teeth there, let go after this long…”

And that’s for most sounds. As a result, I tend to get more and more difficult to understand as I try to speak fluidly, because the “fluid” part and the “clear” parts just never work for me.

Alas, I fear my career as a rapper is doomed.
