“On Writing” and the advice it gives

by dreamreal on 16 April, 2012

One of my favorite books recently is Stephen King’s “On Writing,” which I’ve written about before, and the one thing I do really poorly that it suggests is very simple:

I jot. I rarely write consistently. I get all wrapped up in myself, thinking my thoughts, and thus I keep them to myself.

I need to get over that. I overedit myself, thinking “surely I’ll have something meaningful and grand to write,” and as a result, I don’t write anything meaningful and grand; I don’t even write anything small and mean.

Get over it, me.
