Rush has two new singles available through iTunes and Amazon: Caravan and BU2B. They’re really good – they’ve gotten a little more comfortable with the producer they worked with for their previous album, and they’re actually a little more adventurous now.
I have a feeling that Nick Raskulinecz – the producer – was pushing them backward a little for Snakes and Arrows just to get them back to “being Rush,” using chords and formations fans of the band would recognize.
It created a great album, but I can’t listen to it without thinking “Whoa! That’s awesome! I remember when I heard that on …” all the way through.
On this set of songs (it’s not an “album” yet, just two singles) they seem to be moving forward again, working with new stuff for them.
The new songs are really pretty hard – I’m enjoying it so far. The songs are a little preachy, but I can deal with that.
Big drum sounds – the guitar is a little thin, reminiscent of the Test for Echo sound but it’s a clear mix.
Apparently Geddy’s endorsed Orange amps, which is kinda cool – I like the Orange sound, and Geddy’s bass definitely cuts through everything here.
